13 TOYS - HOMO LUDENS //

Vrettos has been collecting or photographing toys for many years. He focuses on plastic toys of the first days that those were manufactured in Greece and were quite rough and simple, with no particular sculptural or other technical qualities. Unlike artists like David Levinthal for example, Vrettos, photographs those toys in very simple, almost archaic poses, forming a very serious, albeit uncanny, portraiture of the inanimate. Under the title ‘Homo Ludens’ (referencing Johan Huizinga’s study of the play element in culture, 1938), an installation of those works, was presented within Photosynkyria 2005, in Thessaloniki.
